Covington Police Incidents
On April 1, 2010, police responded to a drunk at a local business in the 73000 block of Hwy 25. Upon arrival Officers observed a male subject harassing customers in the business. Officers approached the subject and he became combative and Officers were required to subdue him. During the altercation one of the Officer’s was injured and required hospital attention. The suspect was charged with Disturbing the Peace by being Drunk and Causing Injury to an Officer.
On April 2, 2010, individual reported a theft of their wallet from a purse while shopping at a local food store in St. Tammany Plaza. Wallet was located in the victim’s vehicle.
On April 3, 2010, victim residing in the Pine Crest Apartments wired a down payment for a vehicle which was offered for sale through the internet, however vehicle has not been produced as of yet. A report of the incident was taken and authorities in the other location have been notified.
On April 5, 2010, police received notification from complainant that his wife’s bicycle was taken approximately two days ago from the 500 block of W. 15th Avenue. A search of the area by police resulted in the bicycle being located on W. 17th Avenue.
On April 6, 2010, a report of a residence burglary was received by the Covington Police Department in the 200 block of East 14th Avenue. The lock on a gate was broken and the garage was forced open. It was unknown at the time if anything was missing and the complainant advised that this damage could have occurred by her ex-husband.
On April 6, 2010, owner reported that his lawn mower was taken from 300 block of N. Buchannan Street within the last seven hours. A report of the incident was taken and a follow-up investigation will be conducted.
On April 7, 2010, owner located in the 800 block of W. 22 Avenue reported that his gas can, weed eater string and bicycle were stolen from his yard. A theft report was taken of the incident..
On April 7, 2010, resident in the 2000 block of Pine Crest Avenue contacted police and reported that her medication was either taken from her vehicle or residence. She stated that there were several people in the residence that day and could not provide Officers with information on any of the visitors. A report of the incident was taken.
On April 9, 2010, police responded to domestic disturbance in the 600 block of West 28th Avenue. Complainant advised he had an altercation with a female friend and she scratched him in the face. Suspect charged with two counts of Simple Battery and Disturbing the Peace.
On April 9, 2010, police responded to the hospital emergency room pertaining to a possible child abuse incident. After a thorough review by the attending physician it was determined that the child had sustained a fall and the injuries were accidental.
On April 9, 2010, police responded to a residence burglary in the 1200 block of West 15th Avenue. Forced entry was made and several items of value were taken. The crime scene was processed and the investigation is continuing.
On April 9, 2010, police responded to a residence burglary in the 300 block of St. Mary Drive. Complainant advised she returned home from work and discovered the rear door had been forced open. Several items of value were missing and the scene was processed. This investigation is continuing.
On April 9, 2010, a vehicle owned by a tree service company parked in the 200 block of N. Massachusetts Avenue was burglarized and $150.00 in cash was removed from the vehicle. Driver advised he had left the vehicle unattended for approximately 5 minutes. A police report was taken.
On April 9, 2010, a bicycle was taken from the 1100 block of Columbia Street. No other information was provided and a report of the incident was taken.
On April 10, 2010, police responded to a local business in the 1200 block of US 190 Business regarding an aggravated Assault that occurred between co-workers. Complainant advised that a co-worker had threatened her in the pharmacy area of the store.
On April 10, 2010, police responded to a call from a ten year old in the 700 block of Lee Road alleging that a male subject was physically beating his mother. Officers observed the injuries and charged the suspect with Simple Battery.
On April 10, 2010, police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of West 12th Avenue. Complainant advised her ex-boyfriend had forced his way into her home and physically hit her. Officers located the suspect and issued him a subpoena for Simple Battery and Criminal Trespassing.
On April 10, 2010, a local business in the 1200 block of US 190 Business reported a shoplifting of a camera. Officers responded to the incident and apprehended Ronald Amos and charged him with Theft of Goods. .
On April 12, 2010, in the 1700 block of N. Columbia Street ballistic vests and one mobile radio were stolen from the Probation and Parole Office. A report of the incident was taken and items were placed into the National Crime Information Center.
On April 12, 2010, at Tyler and W. 30th Avenue a motorist stopped at the corner and five black males approached her vehicle and while her window on the passenger side was open snatched her purse from the front seat of the vehicle and fled. A report was made along with a search of the area for the suspects and purse however to no avails.
On April 13, 2010, a complaint of a motorist leaving a local service station in the 2700 block of US 190 South was received by the Police Department. A description of the vehicle was related to patrol units and the suspect was located by Officers. An investigation into the matter revealed that the customer had in fact used his credit card to purchase $75.00 of fuel and possessed a receipt for the fuel.
On April 13, 2010, as a result of an arrest warrant being issued for the suspect in the armed robbery at 71711 Riverside Drive, the defendant voluntarily turned himself into authorities and was placed in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
On April 13, 2010, an individual came to the Covington Police Department and reported that someone had gotten their bank account number and printed fake checks and cashed approximately $1500.00 at merchants outside the Covington area. The bank on which the account was held was also outside the Covington City area. This investigation was referred to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Office for investigation.
On April 14, 2010, police responded to an alleged Simple Battery that occurred in the 700 block of West 25th Avenue. After a thorough investigation by the responding officer it was learned that the suspect was at the location to serve court papers to the complainant. Both parties came to an acceptable conclusion.
On April 15, 2010, police responded to a residence burglary in the 200 block of East 14th Avenue. The gate and garage door appeared to have been forced open with a crowbar. The complainant advised the owner of the residence was out of town and she was a member of the family. Upon return the owner will determine if any items were missing.
On April 15, 2010, police responded to a residence burglary on Lurline Drive. Complainant advised that overnight some tried to force entry into her apartment and damaged the door and lock. No items were taken.
On April 16, 2010, a report was received that a blue waste can was stolen from the 300 block of East 8th Avenue sometime between December and February. In order for the owner of the property to obtain a new trash can a police report was required. Report was taken.
On April 16, 2010, another report was taken regarding a stolen or missing Coastal Waste can from the 600 block of W. 25th Avenue. Complainant advised that the can was placed at the curb around 6:00am and when she returned home at 4:00pm it was gone. A report was taken.
On April 16, 2010, police received a report of a family disturbance in the 900 block of West 32nd Avenue. A physical altercation occurred between a man and a woman and the woman’s daughter secured a firearm and discharged it to cause them to stop fighting. Suspect became combatant with
Officers and was subdued. He was charged with simple battery and resisting arrest and taken to the parish jail.
On April 19, 2010, police responded to a residence burglary in the 400 block of North Buchanan Street. Complainant advised that someone forced entry through the rear door and removed a laptop computer. The scene was processed and the investigation is continuing.
On April 19, 2010, Police received a notification that a shoplifting had occurred at a local store in the 1200 block of US 190 Business. There was a general description provided and the incident had occurred hours prior to notification to the Police Department.
On April 19, 2010, a report was taken of a bicycle being taken from a residence’s yard in the 100 block of East 24th Avenue. A description of the suspect and bicycle was taken and a search of the area was also conducted.
On April19, 2010, Police received notification of a lost or stolen credit card. Complainant was unaware of where it may have last been used or possessed. Complainant advised that they remembered being at several locations outside the city limits of Covington and could have lost it there. This was referred to the Sheriff Office for investigation.
On April 19, 2010, Police responded to a report of shoplifting in the200 block of Columbia Street. A description of the vehicle that the suspects were driving was obtained. A search revealed three juveniles who were found in possession of stolen merchandise from several stores in the Covington area as well as stores in the Mandeville area. All juveniles were charged by the Covington Police Department and referred to the Mandeville Police Department.
On April 20, 2010, police were summoned to the 700 block of North Monroe Street regarding a domestic disturbance between two sisters. Complainant advised she was struck in the face by her sister and then her sister left the location. A description of the vehicle was obtained and a search for the vehicle was conducted.
On April 20, 2010, a notification of a theft of wine was received from a local food store in the 100 block of East 21st Avenue. The suspect was seen on the security cameras in the store taking the merchandise. Investigation into the incident will follow. Police responded to a disturbance in the 700 block of W. 32 Avenue. On April 20, 2010, Victim in the 700 block of Covington Point Drive contacted the Police and advised that a chair and passports were taken from her residence while she was not a home and the only other persons were window washers that she had hired that day to clean. She did not know what their names were and this investigation is continuing.
On April 24, 2010, Police were dispatched to the 400 block of West 21st Avenue pertaining to a theft of two ceramic flower pots. The pots were located outside the fence on the side by the yard. A report was taken and investigation continuing.
On April 24, 2010, Police were dispatched to ST. Tammany Square regarding a lost or stolen wallet. Complainant advised he noticed it missing when he went to pay for merchandise he was attempting to purchase at a local store. The report was taken and investigation will continue.
On April 25, 2010, police responded to the 1300 block of West 18th Avenue in regards to a family dispute between a father and his son. Father advised he had an argument with his son and his son punched him. The dispute was now over and he did not want his son removed from the premises. A summons was issued to the son for Simple Battery.
On April 27, 2010, police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Pine Crest Avenue regarding the theft of a cell phone. Complainant advised that her boyfriend that was staying at the residence took a cell phone that belonged to her. A report of the theft was taken and the investigation will continue.
On April 28, 2010, police were dispatched to the 100 block of St. George Circle regarding the theft of identity. Complainant advised that the stepmother of her son obtained a credit card in her name and also took her medication and SSI check. The incident was recorded and the investigation into this matter will continue.
On April 29, 2010, a complaint was received regarding a family disturbance that had occurred in the 500 block of East Rutland Street. Complainant advised that her ex-husband came and took some of her belongings. A record of the incident was taken.
On April 30, 2010, police responded to a residence burglary in the 100 block of St George Drive. Complainant advised when they returned home from work they learned that someone had forced there way into the residence and taken numerous items of value. The scene was processed and the investigation is continuing.
